The OneNote desktop app (previously called OneNote 2016) is now installed by default alongside Word, PowerPoint, and Excel for Microsoft 365 subscriptions that include the client apps and Office 2019. Learning Tools for OneNote is a free Add-in for OneNote that helps everyone improve reading and writing skills, including gifted learners, students with learning differences or a combination of any of a broad range of unique learning abilities. Introducing OneNote
OneNote is a digital note-taking app that provides a single place for keeping all of your notes, research, plans, and information — everything you need to remember and manage in your life at home, at work, or at school.
In OneNote, notebooks never run out of paper. Notes are easy to organize, print, and share, and you can search and find important information quickly, even if you forget where you've originally captured it. Best of all, your notebooks are stored online so you can easily get to them on any of your mobile devices.

Log into OneNote
Online
- Login to https://email.wisc.edu/ with your NetID credentials.
- Select your email address.
- Click on the app launcher located on the top left corner of the window.
- Click on the OneNote tile.
Desktop client

Download the OneNote desktop client using your NetID credentials through the Office 365 portal.
Mobile client

Troubleshooting
In the event that you run into an issue with OneNote, please try the following the tips to troubleshoot the issue on your own. If you do not see the issue listed below please submit a comment using the comment button below. If the recommendations do not resolve your OneNote issue, please contact the DoIT Help Desk.
Issue: Error message when trying to save and sync a OneNote notebook or page using OneNote online or the Windows desktop client.
O365 Onenote Download
Error message: OneNote can't sync this page. Please don't edit this page for a short time while we attempt to fix the issue. Page has never been synced.
Cause: An error on the original document prevented the notebook from synchronizing correctly.
- Resolution: Recreate the OneNote notebook by exporting the problematic notebook and importing it back into your OneNote account. Learn more.
